Instagram operates under algorithms that weigh your engagement rate with other relevant factors to determine how valuable your content is, which it then uses to determine how many people to show your content to, in what order, and where in the feed.
The algorithm for Instagram values video way more than photo posts (think about it: people can easily digest a photo while scrolling and just keep going, but they have to stop and actively watch a video before they decide if they want to keep watching, so it ranks higher)
